  91. METZ Software has also designed PCW-Lock, security software which works
  92. in conjunction with Harcom Security Systems, Inc.'s line of security
  93. products.  PC-Watchman ACS (Access Control Software) makes it practical
  94. to install company-wide PC security, even when there are thousands
  95. of PC's to protect.  With PC-Watchman ACS, you can avoid high implentation
  96. costs, vulnerability to being bypassed by skilled users, and complex
  97. installation and administration procedures.

  100. which cannot be circumvented even by booting from a floppy.  ACS blanks
  101. the screen after periods of inactivity in either MS-DOS or Windows

  121. 1.  Novell Netware and Banyan Vines support.
  122.  
  123.     METZ Lock supports Novell Netware and Banyan Vines passwords.
  124. If you have a password-protected network installed, Lock can
  125. automatically detect your network password and use it as the
  126. default METZ Lock password.
  127.     Uncheck the Use Network Password checkbox on the METZ Lock
  128. Configuration dialog box, if you do not want to use your network
  129. password as your METZ Lock password.
  130.  
  131. NOTE:  Note the following about using network passwords:
  132.        A.  When you change your METZ Lock password, your
  133.            network password will change, too.
  134.        B.  If you want to use METZ Lock but you do not want
  135.            to password-protect your network, be sure
  136.            to keep the Use Network Password checkbox unchecked.
  137.            Otherwise, your METZ Lock password will become your
  138.            network password.
  139.        C.  Unlike METZ Lock passwords, network passwords
  140.            do not appear encrypted in the "CRX=" line of the
  141.            WIN.INI file.  You will not be able to remove a
  142.            network password by editing the WIN.INI file.  If you
  143.            forget your network password, you will need to contact
  144.            your network administrator.
  145.        D.  Novell network passwords are not case sensitive.

  147. 2.  Using METZ Lock with Non-Windows Applications
  148.  
  149.    If you run DOS applications under Microsoft Windows, and are
  150. having problems with the password dialog activating while you are
  151. working in the DOS window, make sure that METZKW.SYS is installed
  152. in your CONFIG.SYS file.  This driver (METZKW.SYS) detects activity
  153. in your DOS application.  Your CONFIG.SYS file should contain a
  154. line reading:
  155.  
  156.    device=c:\windows\system\metzkw.sys (or the appropriate path)
  157.  
  158. Don't forget to reboot if you have just made the changes to
  159. your CONFIG.SYS file.
  160.  
  161.  
  162. 3.  Technical Information about METZKW.SYS.
  163.  
  164.     METZKW.SYS uses very little memory.
  165.  
  166.     METZKW.SYS can be loaded high.
  167.  
  168.     METZKW.SYS has the following optional parameters:
  169.  
  170.     /NOCAD - disables CTRL-ALT-DEL at the DOS level.
  171.  
  172.     /NOMAT - disables mouse tracking, should there be a conflict
  173.  
  174.     If you were to add both options to your CONFIG.SYS, they would
  175. appear as follows:
  176.  
  177.     device=c:\windows\system\metzkw.sys /NOCAD /NOMAT
  178.  
  179. 4.  Using METZKW.COM instead of METZKW.SYS.
  180.  
  181.     If you find that the keyboard activity is not being detected
  182. while running DOS applications under Windows, it may be necessary
  183. to use the METZKW.COM version of METZKW.SYS because of a few
  184. drivers that interfere with the operation of METZKW.SYS.
  185. Running METZKW.COM in your AUTOEXEC.BAT after these drivers are
  186. loaded, and before Windows is run, will eliminate the problem.
  187.  
  188.     The DOS KEYB command and some network drivers affect METZKW.SYS.
  189.  
  190.     Both METZKW.SYS and METZKW.COM are on the installation diskette.
  191.  
  192. 5.  Using Lock with Windows 3.1 Screen Savers
  193.  
  194.     If you wish to use a Windows Screen Saver along with METZ Lock,
  195. simply configure the desired Screen Saver from the Windows Control
  196. Panel.  You should set the Windows Screen Saver delay value to
  197. a number higher than the Lock timeout value.  Lock will then
  198. automatically activate the Windows Screen Saver when the system is
  199. locked.
  200.  
  201. 6.  Adjusting the METZ Lock Screen Saver Bitmap Display Interval
  202.  
  203.     If you wish to adjust the rate at which METZ Lock moves
  204. the Screen Saver bitmap around the screen, add the following
  205. line to the METZ Lock section of your WIN.INI file:
  206.  
  207.           [METZ Lock]
  208.           bmpdelay=##
  209.  
  210. where ## is the number of seconds you want to wait before the
  211. bitmap is moved again.  Setting this value to 0 (zero) will center
  212. the bitmap on the screen and disable the random movement.
  213.  
  214. 7.  The METZ Lock Program Files
  215.

  235. 8.  Installing METZ Lock
  236.  
  237. To install and set up METZ Lock on your system:
  238.      1.  Run INSTALL.EXE included with these files.
  239.      2.  Add LOCK.EXE to the "load" or "run" line of your WIN.INI file.
  240.      3.  The first time you start METZ Lock, choose the Configure...
  241.          command from the Lock System menu to set your preferences and
  242.          password.  You may change them again any time you need to.
  243.  
  244. 9.  Command Line Options
  245.  
  246. You can add the following command line options whenever you load
  247. METZ Lock:
  248.      /H or /h  - Hide the METZ Lock program icon
  249.      /L or /l  - Automatically lock or blank the screen when METZ Lock runs
  250.  
  251. 10.  Using METZ Lock
  252.  
  253. The METZ Lock program icon is a key and a keyhole.  The first time you
  254. start METZ Lock, you'll have to enter and confirm a password.  Once you've
  255. entered a password, METZ Lock will continue to use it until you change it
  256. again.  METZ Lock passwords are case-sensitive--so be sure to type in
  257. the exact combination of upper-case and lower-case characters.
  258.  
  259. All METZ Lock menu commands appear on its system menu.  Experiment with the
  260. options on the Configuration and Advanced Configuration dialog boxes until
  261. you find the exact combination of settings that best meet your security
  262. needs.
  263.  
  264. 11. De-Installing METZ Lock
  265.  
  266. To de-install METZ Lock:
  267.      1.  Edit your SYSTEM.INI, change the following setting:
  268.            Change:
  269.               [386Enh]
  270.               keyboard=D:\WIN31\VKD.386  (path may be different)
  271.            To:
  272.               [386Enh]
  273.               keyboard=*vkd
  274.      2.  Remove LOCK.EXE from the "load" or "run" line of your WIN.INI
  275.          file, or Program Manager Startup Group.
  276.      3.  Delete the METZ Lock Program Manager Group.
  277.      4.  Delete the Lock files.
  278.      5.  Restart Windows.
  279.  
  280.  
  281.                           Trouble Shooting
  282.  
  283. 1. Lock is not recognizing your Banyan Vines network.
  284.  
  285.     The files VNSAPI.DLL and RVNSAPI.DLL on the installation disk
  286. are not copied to your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory if they already
  287. exist.  It is possible that the versions of these files on your
  288. system are older versions, which will prevent Lock from accessing
  289. your Banyan network.  To correct the problem, exit windows, make
  290. backup copies of the two files on your system, then copy the files
  291. from the Lock installation disk and restart Windows.  Lock should
  292. now allow you to select 'Use Network Password' in the configuration
  293. dialog.
  294.  
  295. 2. Lock is timing out while you are using DOS applications under Windows.
  296.  
  297.     Make sure METZKW.SYS or METZKW.COM is installed in your CONFIG.SYS
  298. or AUTOEXEC.BAT file.  The METZ Lock About box will display the message
  299. 'METZKW is installed' when METZKW is running.  If this does not correct
  300. the problem, see 'Using METZKW.COM instead of METZKW.SYS' above.
  301.  
  302. 3. You have 'Lock on startup' checked, but Windows does not Lock on startup.
  303.  
  304.     You need to add LOCK.EXE to your 'load=' or 'run=' line of the
  305. WIN.INI, or add LOCK.EXE to your Program Manager startup group.  Lock
  306. on Startup causes METZ Lock to ask for a password when it is first
  307. run, but doesn't automatically cause it to run when Windows is started.
